Hymn-a-Day: 68

Despite being confined more-or-less to a down-stuffed bed the past few days, I’ve somehow managed to awaken with a small verse of a hymn on my lips: just a short few lines or so, but strangely enough, those few lines have been enough to lift my spirits up and get me out of bed and pull up the blinds to let the sunlight in.

2 Peter 1:19 – And we have the prophetic word made more firm, to which you do well to give heed as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts

The morning star, to me, has been those simple words of Grace, snippets of hymns rising up with me in the morning. I hope this continues even after I’m fully recovered. I think the fact that I’ve woken up in this way is actually an indicator of how I’ve gone to bed – I’ve consciously put away bright screens (iPad, laptop) and read one chapter of the Bible before bed. I didn’t wake up with the book of Acts, Chapter 3, memorized, but somehow,

Colossians 3:16 – Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to God.

was true.

Isn’t that lovely? Colossians 3:16 never gets old. The Word, as Christ Himself, is a gentleman and never barges into our heart. In fact, it requires us to – what – let it dwell in us richly. We have to give our permission and our willingness that yes, we would prefer to take in a more sanctified (that is, holy and separated to God) supply. If we do just that, and make a little move towards God – a wave, even, at best, God is so pleased to reveal an afore hidden, yet splendid person in you – a delightful Jesus – who, despite apparent disappointments and drudgery, still loves to sing with grace,

Ephesians 5:20 – Giving thanks at all times for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our God and Father

Without further ado, today’s hymn:

Praise of the Lord-His Name

Day  13 – 68

1. Lord, Thy Name is called Jesus,

Wonderful is this dear Name;

Thou wast brought forth of the virgin,

And the Son of man became.

Thou art our Jehovah-Savior,

Saving us from all our sins;

When as Savior we receive Thee,

Life divine in us begins.

Enjoy a new beginning this morning! Happy Wednesday :).

  1. Those are all wonderful verses in the Bible! If we are those who give the Lord our time early in the morning, our day has a different start to it. It is also very true how we get up in the morning with how we go to bed at night. When we choose the Lord Jesus and receive Him, then His life starts to operate and enlivens us. We are less slumpy (new word) and would even sing to Him!
