Floriole {Eating Out: Chicago}

I grew up close to Chicago and since I’ve become a Beantown gal, I haven’t really explored all the new neighborhoods as an adult. When friends of ours moved recently to the city, we decided we would visit ASAP. Since they’re also foodies, we had a grand time trying new eats, including this delightful bakery, Floriole, in the Lincoln Park neighborhood at 1220 W. Webster Ave, Chicago. Everything was delicious. If I lived in the neighborhood, I’d come once a week for a coffee, at least, and have to resist getting everything on the menu. The space is bright and tall windows open out to a view of some cute residences across the way. Those of you who know me personally know that big windows and a nice view are essential to getting me to come back to a place.

  (Left: Gateau Basque – almond butter cake filled with pastry cream and raspberries; Right: peanut butter and jelly cookies and a raspberry panna cotta)
  The gateau basque tasted like a moist almond cake, with bits of raspberries (coincidentally, my new favorite fruit, and food, no less). The panna cotta was light with a sweet and slightly tart homemade raspberry topping.   Rooibos tea, cappuccino, and coffee added the final touches. The ham and cheese had some nice seeds on top to add texture and flavor to the light, buttery and delectable croissant.
  A perfect bite of gateau basque and coffee.

I definitely recommend coming for breakfast, but their lunch offerings look awesome too. I’ll be sure to come back!
