Hymn-a-Day: 77

Good morning!

Some mornings, I wake myself up with a Bible verse or two – reading, considering, and sometimes trying to turn it into a small prayer. I haven’t gone back to my Hymn-a-Day in a while, and this morning decided to read a couple of hymns instead. Next in line, #77, is one of my absolute favorites.  This may be strange to you, but perhaps you will understand. I think I re-read this hymn four or five times, intending to post it for Hymn-a-Day but never doing so because I just enjoyed it so much and didn’t want to leave it behind and go on to the next one. I concluded this morning that the thought was silly, and sure, I would like to go on to see what #78 is soon, so I can get enjoy the rest of the hymnal before too long.

The tune is so lovely and uplifting. Feel free to visit the link at left to listen to it while you peruse the stanzas. Maybe even sing along 🙂

This hymn alludes to a higher view in many senses of the word “high.” It is about taking a heavenly perspective, of Jesus’ name, of it’s power, of its shelter and protection, of promises of coming blessings and reliefs and the end of trials, of the better government and calm and peace without many causes of earthly problems.

Praise of the Lord-His Name

Day  22 – 77

1. Lift that Name high! That glorious Name,

Let heav’n and earth its pow’r proclaim;

Our mighty, conqu’ring, coming King,

Earth yet shall with His praises ring.

Abounding problems? There’s a King who is mighty and conquering and can deal with all those things.

2. Lift that Name high! To that high tower

We flee in every trial hour,

Safe, sheltered, satisfied and free,

 For Jesus’ Name is victory.

There are so many lovely feelings associated with being safe, sheltered, satisfied, and free, aren’t there?

3. Lift that Name high! Until one day

His mighty Name the earth shall sway,

And sin and death, distress and pain

  Shall be no more, for Christ shall reign.

That’s the kind of kingship that is beautiful and relieving.

4. Lift that Name high! Jesus shall reign,

And kings shall follow in His train;

Lift that Name high, all names above,

 The Name of Him we own and love.

5. Lift that Name high! For every knee

Shall bow to Him; Jesus shall see

Fruit of His Cross, when earth shall bring

Her tribute to her Lord and King.

Enjoy the rest of your day!
