Good morning! It’s a sleepy Monday morning in Beantown with lazy flurries drifting past my window. This morning, I tried not diving to my phone, iPad, or laptop (not even to check the time) and spent a few minutes with a hymnal and read a short passage in a book I’m on my way to finishing. It has been quite a while since the last post in this series, Hymn-a-Day, and I’m currently on hymn 162 in reading although I haven’t posted in a while! I’ll be catching up, because some of the hymns in the 100s in my hymnal are just soooo good and I can’t wait to share them. It surely doesn’t hurt to have a second go-over of them again.

3. Redeemer, Savior, Friend of man
Once ruined by the fall,
Thou hast devised salvation’s plan,
For Thou hast died for all.
I appreciate the first line of this stanza, because I am reminded of who this Savior is : he is a redeemer, because he bought salvation for all mankind with the price of his own life; He is a Savior; He is a friend of man – a friend to Abraham in the Old Testament of the Bible, but also several others. Additionally, part of the blessing of believers in Christ today is that they have this Savior as their friend too, one they can open to.
Speaking of a “Friend of man”, at my wedding, one of the songs that our musicians played was actually on this very topic. There are a lot of questions that I’ve had and asked before, but also some answers :). I hope that these words encourage you this Monday!
