Hymn-a-Day: 79

Good morning! It’s a sleepy Monday morning in Beantown with lazy flurries drifting past my window. This morning, I tried not diving to my phone, iPad, or laptop (not even to check the time) and spent a few minutes with a hymnal and read a short passage in a book I’m on my way to finishing. It has been quite a while since the last post in this series, Hymn-a-Day, and I’m currently on hymn 162 in reading although I haven’t posted in a while! I’ll be catching up, because some of the hymns in the 100s in my hymnal are just soooo good and I can’t wait to share them. It surely doesn’t hurt to have a second go-over of them again.

The next hymn is #79. There are only two more hymns that fall into the category,

Praise of the Lord-His Name

Day  24 – 79

3. Redeemer, Savior, Friend of man

Once ruined by the fall,

Thou hast devised salvation’s plan,

For Thou hast died for all.

I appreciate the first line of this stanza, because I am reminded of who this Savior is : he is a redeemer, because he bought salvation for all mankind with the price of his own life; He is a Savior; He is a friend of man – a friend to Abraham in the Old Testament of the Bible, but also several others. Additionally, part of the blessing of believers in Christ today is that they have this Savior as their friend too, one they can open to.

Speaking of a “Friend of man”, at my wedding, one of the songs that our musicians played was actually on this very topic. There are a lot of questions that I’ve had and asked before, but also some answers :). I hope that these words encourage you this Monday!

  1. Is there someone who’s a friend
    That I can open to?
    A someone who understands
    All that I’m going through?
    A someone when there’s no one
    I can always come to?
    There is no someone like this One.
  2. There is a someone;
    Someone you can open to.
    There is a someone;
    Someone who will take you through.
    There is a someone when there is no one;
    There is a someone, a wonderful One.
  3. Is there someone who can care
    Through all my hardest times?
    A someone always there
    Though it may rain or shine?
    A someone I can lean on
    When the stormy times come?
    There is no someone like this One.
  4. There is a someone;
    Someone in my hardest times.
    There is a someone,
    Always there through rain or shine.
    There is a someone
    When there is no one;
    There is a someone, a special One.
  5. Is there someone who will take
    Take me just as I am?
    A someone who’ll not forsake
    One I can trust to the end?
    A someone who knows me
    Yet he still wants me?
    There is no someone like this One.
  6. There is a someone
    Who will take you as you are.
    There is a someone;
    He will reach you near or far.
    There is a someone;
    He’s the most lovely One.
    Just take this someone, the loveliest One.
  7. Is there someone who can reach
    Down to the depths of my being?
    A someone who can fix
    All of my broken heart strings?
    A someone who can love me
    When there’s no love in me?
    There is no someone like this One.
  8. There is a someone
    Who can touch your inmost being.
    There is a someone;
    He can make your heart to sing.
    There is a someone,
    Love is this precious One.
    Just love this someone, the wonderful One.
  9. Christ is this someone
    Who can touch your inmost being.
    Christ is this someone—
    He can make your heart to sing.
    Christ is this someone.
    Christ is this precious One.
    Just love this someone, the wonderful One.
