With flavors even better the second and third day, this Comforting Tuscan Kale Soup is sure to make it into your meal rotation.
With any major life transition – be it a move, event, or beginning of some sort – lies an opportunity to explore making major changes. I was once a gal who read piles of books, imagining adventures, and content to be surrounded by old book smells, creaky book bindings, and the sounds of library scanners. …

Portland, Maine is about a 2-drive from Boston, and one of our favorite New England destinations. It is close enough for a day trip, and great for a weekend getaway. I had the distinct pleasure in September of sampling a feast of fresh new items arriving to Cafe Landwer’s fall menu, prepared by chefs flown in from Israel to cook for us during a whirlwind trip. With two locations on Beacon Street (one by St. Mary’s Street in Brookline, and the other by major transportation center …
“All we have is now” sums up how I think summer feels about us. Summer officially ends September 22. Yet, I feel no need to rush the transition this year into the new season.

I’ve been in Boston about 11 years, and I still love the feeling of walking up and down Newbury St. and exploring old favorites and new finds. I’d stroll, shop, dine with friends and family, and get in some style/people watching in and grab a treat or a coffee while I went along. I checked …

When my friend Danielle asked me if I would like to join a No Shop February challenge this month, I thought it was a great idea. After one week of it, I definitely was surprised with how it went and what I learned about myself (more on that below). I have a feeling by the end I’ll be proud of myself. I’m already super proud of all the other ladies who have joined in on this challenge. Each joined for slightly different reasons – but cheers to all of us in solidarity, and to a more mindful month for all. Continue reading
Admittedly, during New England winters that can last for about 5/12 months, it takes skill, creativity, and willpower to avoid the prevalent desire to swaddle in a blanket (or anything blanket-like) and call it a day. I’m sharing how finding this style hack got me to try a new style – the faux leather tight – in winter, and love it! Continue reading
Photo taken at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, MA – in front of one of a Mark Rothko painting. Dear BlueBoots, First of all, I want to tell 2017-you that I’m proud of you, and I love you. This past year you took on many new opportunities. You seized the moment – the NOW … Continue reading
Sitting in a meeting where someone is clearly passionate about what they’re talking about does this thing to me where I catch fire too – I bask in the glow of their lit passions. I woke up early, as usual, this morning and instead of being filled with Monday morning jitters or groans about the challenges or responsibilities facing me this week, I was oddly cogent and calm. Taking this as a sign that a little reflection was in order, I infused the morning’s energy into prayer and consideration … Continue reading
I usually love September because of the fresh air, and an overall rise in energy. I find I’m often more active in the fall. While I’d love to be starting a new gym routine, or signing up for a class, I’m learning what it means to be well within my means by attending a class that has some things I can do, and then sitting out for the exercises I know my body can’t do again yet – instead of not going at all. Continue reading

There are some meals that you can never forget – it might be the people you were with, the occasion, the decor, the service, or the unique flavors presented. I had the best Thai food of my personal culinary flavor history at Isarn Thai Soul Kitchen in Kirkland, WA. It is not your typical Thai food experience. If I lived closer, I would definitely be ordering from this hidden gem every week. If you’re local to Seattle and love Thai food, you must try out this flavorful, fresh, colorful and delicious eatery. Continue reading
Happy Friday, friends! Some may dream of being an astronaut, firefighter, or princess of a grand kingdom. The air has just started to cool, and I wonder if that telltale change in the air is permanent. I was thinking about why I enjoy summer: celebrating our birthdays and anniversaries is one big exciting part, but there are also more subtle feelings associated with summer. There’s more freedom to slow down and soak in experiences. Clothes … Continue reading
Who doesn’t love a fresh, flavorful way to enjoy summer’s veggies? I have to admit, zucchini isn’t at the top of my veggie loves list, because I’ve had the soggy, squeaky version many a time (NO more). I made these zucchini fritters on a day when I absolutely didn’t want to labor in the kitchen, … Continue reading

Wellness. It’s a buzzword now, but rest assured, the art of being well is real, achievable by all, and successful usually with a little help from those you call your closest, dearest, best companions – your tribe. For as long as I can remember, there I was, ogling over the jewel tones in life. Perhaps it is a royal mindset, or a mere appreciation for velvet that started with my first (and only) wine-colored velvet scrunchie as a child, but all in all, color me wine-happy, for wine red is my color … Continue reading
More than with makeup, I’ve gone through bottles and bottles of products that don’t work out. We have chemical sensitivities in our household, and in a perfect world, I would like to just have one set of shampoo + conditioner that we can both use. I’m dishing on the non-toxic plant-derived brands I’ve tried lately … Continue reading
Perhaps some important summary points in achieving balance and wellness is realizing what you are looking for, getting the tools you need to get there, using them, and inviting some along to share that journey. Although I haven’t climbed a mountain (I’ve scaled some scary, slippery rocks that were mountains to me, though) I picture … Continue reading
First of all, I want to take the chance to encourage you that it is more than OK just to dress for YOU, and not because you see the next must-have item that everyone has. I’ll keep this simple and sweet, because 1) few people have infinite funds to shop with and also 2) you … Continue reading
For your freshest wedding looks, travel edition, you’ve come to the right place. Wedding season is upon us, and we tapped out at three beautiful affairs already. As an adventure blogger, I consider myself blessed that somehow when I sign up for one adventure, another tags along, grinning and spinning alongside it. We just got back from an epic journey through the Gulf Coast (#bluebootsgogulfcoasttour) and I knew it was going to be hotttttt. Last night, I pooled the inspiration I’ve been absorbing via osmosis on many foodie adventures in Chicago and stacked my culinary hopes on a pound of chicken breast. I’ve been in this degree program for about 6 years, and while I’m looking at the end of this stage of my education soon, I wanted to share some tips and thoughts that might be helpful to someone considering a Ph.D., or earlier in their journey. If there are any questions you all have about being in a Ph.D., send me a note and I can see if I can field it. #community Continue reading

Although I don’t keep a daily journal, when I was told about a special and inspiring campaign about personal growth, intentions, and motivation I was IN. We had a small warm winter welcome to finish off 2016, and the centerpiece of our meal was a lovely, nitrate and nitrite-free holiday ham, courtesy of Whole Foods. Lip balm is an essential, year round. This time of year, I’m loving Moroccan Magic’s peppermint eucalyptus lip balm for the minty pick-me-up scent. I wanted to make sure you all knew about this USDA organic lip balm made with moroccan argan oil, which makes this smooth product my current fav that I don’t leave the house without. Safe lip balm is a big deal – if you use lip products, you basically eat pounds of lip balm a year. If they’re laden with chemicals, that is NOT ok. Be inspired for the new year to up your wellness game! Continue reading
